Welcome to Trappings of Texas! All of the works in Trappings of Texas is offered through a fixed-price sale. This means prices are established by the artist and posted next to each work and published in a price list. With your ballot book, you are eligible to place a ballot slip in the ballot box by a work. Through a process that is designed and monitored for fairness a salesperson draws the name of up to two potential buyers giving them the opportunity to purchase. (More names may be drawn for jewelry, sculptures and etchings depending on the number of available castings and prints that are available.) For more details check out the Rules of Sale online or in the price list when you arrive.

Each person registering in person for the sale will receive a ballot book containing one ballot for each work in Trappings of Texas.

The purchaser has until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21st to drop a signed and numbered ballot into the boxes by the work he wishes to purchase. At 7:30 p.m., an air horn will sound at which time each salesperson will draw two names and post them on a large card near each work. The printed art number on the ballot must match the number of the art piece.

The person whose name is posted first will have 20 minutes to reach the salesperson and pick up the bill of sale to purchase the work. Once the sale is confirmed, the seller will write SOLD on the card. If the first individual has not claimed the work after the initial 20 minutes expire, the second name becomes eligible to purchase the work for the next 20 minutes. For jewelry, sculptures and etchings, multiple names are drawn for additional castings and prints. Finally after the second 20 minutes expire, unsold work is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Paying for Your Purchase

ONLY THE PERSON WHOSE NAME IS POSTED CAN PAY FOR WORKS. PAYING FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S PURCHASE IS NOT ALLOWED.
ALL PURCHASES REQUIRE PAYMENT IN FULL THE NIGHT OF THE SALE.

Forms of Payment

Checks are to be made payable to the Museum of the Big Bend. Visa and MasterCard are also accepted.

After Opening Weekend

All work will remain on display at the Museum through May 28, 2017. Unsold art will remain available for purchase. The Museum of the Big Bend offers proxy bidding for those unable to attend the 2017 Trappings of Texas but would like the chance to make a purchase.

Each person placing a ballot by proxy must purchase a ballot book for $50. The ballot book contains one ballot for each piece in the show.

If you want to bid on one piece, list that work and the pertinent information on the proxy form. If you decide to bid on 2 pieces, list both items on the proxy form. In this case, you must indicate whether you want both, or if you get #1 that you do not want #2 and so forth.

IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT IF MORE THAN ONE PIECE IS LISTED AND YOU ARE DRAWN ON ALL, YOU ARE OBLIGATED TO PURCHASE ALL UNLESS OTHERWISE INSTRUCTED (in writing).

You may fax your proxy form back to Maggie Rumbelow at 432.837.8901. If you would prefer to send by mail, please address as follows: MoBB, ATTN: Maggie Rumbelow, Box C-101, Alpine, TX 79832. A ballot book will be charged to you in order to place the ballots on Friday, April 21st.

For your information, on Friday, April 21st at 7:30 p.m. two names are selected and posted. The first person (or proxy) has 20 minutes to confirm the sale. A horn will blow to mark the end of 20 minutes. If the first person chosen has not claimed the work of art, then the second person becomes eligible to purchase the work, etc.
