        TheSulRossBarSRBarRodeoAssociationBirthplaceofNationalIntercollegiateRodeoAssociationForoversixtyyearstheNationalIntercollegiateRodeoAssociationNIRAmissionhasbeenPreservingWesternheritagethroughcollegiaterodeo.Todaythereareoveronehundredcollegerodeosayearwithonehundredandthirty-sevenmemberschoolsanduniversities.ButdoyouknowthecriticalrolethattheSulRossBarSRBarRodeoAssociationplayedintheformationoftheNIRAWhenmembersoftheSulRossStateTeachersCollegeClipandBrandClubmetinOctober1947anannouncementwasmadethataRopingClubwasbeingorganizedforstudentsinterestedinropingandrodeoing.ByNovembertheRopingClubwasorganizedandnamedtheBarSRBarRodeoAssociation.MonthsbeforetheOctoberandNovemberannouncementsstudentswerepracticingtocompeteintheirfirstcollegiaterodeoatJohnTarletonCollegescheduledforlateNovember.ThestudentnewspaperSkylinereportedtheresultsofthisrodeoItwasaffirmedthattheSulRossRodeoAssociationwonthetrophywhichwasawardedtotheschoolwiththehighesttotalnumberofpoints.AndinAprilof1948theBarSRBarsix-manrodeoteamwonfirstplaceintheHardin-SimmonsRodeo.NIRATrophyCup
