Andy Warhol: Cowboys and Indians

Andy Warhol: Cowboys and Indians

March 1 – June 1, 2024

Andy Warhol, fascinated by icons of American culture, released a portfolio of “Cowboys and Indians” in 1986. The 14 prints in the series portray a fantasy of the American West, mixing together historical figures and mass media interpretations of the past. In addition, 1900s photogravures of Native Americans by Edward S. Curtis and the 1939 Indian Court Series screen prints by Louis Siegriest from the MoBB permanent collection will be exhibited alongside Warhol’s work.

This portfolio is one of the last major series the artist completed before his death in 1987. Andy Warhol: Cowboys and Indians was organized by the Briscoe Western Art Museum, San Antonio, Texas.
