California Style Quirt by Pablo Lozano
rawhide, sterling silver and leather
This quirt was made with a 24-plait body over a braided 6-plait round rawhide core. The handle was created utilizing 64 strands of natural color rawhide in a masterful presentation of the fid-work technique, and incorporating various braiding patterns blending the Vaquero and Gaucho cultures. Also, features a sterling silver button in the top of the handle bearing the maker’s name, P.Lozano. The body of the quirt is decorated with buttons in traditional herringbone and Gaucho braids. The flat braided wrist strap is executed in a 12 strand “Trenza Patria” in natural color rawhide, finishing into a natural color button. Features a sliding herringbone button for adjustment. Handcrafted leather popper made by saddlemaker Steve Mecum.
