Ecos del Sol: Portraits of Mexican American Heritage and Culture
On exhibit November 15, 2024–February 15, 2025
A showcase of several cultures and regions including Chicano, Bordeña, and Fronterizo through works by eight renowned artists: Gaspar Enriquez, Elisa Jimenez, Luis A. Jimenez Jr., Antonio Castor L., Francisco Delgado, Adrian Aguirre, Citlali Delgado and Osvaldo Delgado. With their diverse artistic expressions, these creators delve into themes of identity, heritage, and personal journey, inviting viewers to experience and connect with the evolving tapestry of Mexican American regional cultures.
The opening weekend began with a Friday night reception on November 15. The following Saturday there were several talks and presentations including a live performance by Elisa Jimenez demonstrating her couture sculpture, Three Graces, for which three people were chosen from Sul Ross State University and the citizenry of Alpine.
Also on exhibit in the hallway gallery: Local Mexican-American artists—Yosdy Valdivia, Yasmine Marquez, Tamara Carrasco, Alouy Martinez, Lorina Soza, JD Garcia, Emily Oyama, Ramon Deanda, Irlanda Vargas, Julian Vidales, Rigo Zamarron and Anthony Carrasco
